The symptoms that show the presence of viruses on your computer are your computer’s slower-than-usual performance, frequent, irrelevant pop-ups, and other anomalous functions. Here are the steps to remove hidden virus from computer.

Step 1 - Using CMD

  • Type ‘cmd’ without including the single quotes in the Windows search bar.
  • Right-click the Command Prompt option and select the Run as an administrator option.
  • Enter the drive letter of the computer.
  • Enter the ‘attrib -s-h -r/s/d *.*’ command without the quotes followed by the dir command.
  • Search for the files or directories named autorun. The extension of the virus-infected files will be .inf.
  • Once you enter del autorun.inf in the Command window, the viruses will be removed from the computer.

Step 2 - Remove Hidden Virus From Computer Using Antivirus Program

Windows Defender

  • The Windows 10 computer has an inbuilt antivirus program named Windows Defender. It is better to use the built-in antivirus program instead of third-party antivirus software for protecting the computer from viruses.
  • Open the Settings screen on the Windows 10 computer.
  • Select the Update & Security option followed by the Windows Security option.
  • Select the Virus & Threat Protection option, navigate to the Threat History section, and click the Scan Now button.
  • The Windows Defender program will scan the computer and then remove the virus automatically.

Third-party Antivirus Program - Avast

  • After installing Avast Antivirus, launch the main interface of the program on the computer.
  • Click the Protection tab on the left panel and select the Scan option.
  • Click the Settings option below the Boot Time Scan section.
  • Choose the area that you need to scan from the appropriate drop-down menu and click OK.
  • Click Boot Time Scan -> Install specialized definitions.
  • Wait until you see the ‘Boot-time scan specialized definitions are installed and ready to use’ message appears on the screen.
  • Click the Run on Next PC Reboot button and select the Restart option to remove hidden virus from computer.
  • This scan might take up to a maximum of 2 hours.
  • Once done, click Protection -> Virus Chest.
  • The detected threats will be shown on the screen.
  • Select the checkbox beside the threats and click the Delete button.
  • If the ‘Permanently delete these files’ message prompts on the screen, select the Delete option.

Step 3 - Removing Temporary Files Manually

  • Boot the Windows 10 computer in a Safe Mode.
  • Remove all the temporary files. This will speed up the virus scanning process on the computer.
  • Run the Disk Cleanup utility. Now we sucessfully remove hidden virus from computer.
