 How To Enable ESET Firewall?

The ESET firewall helps to monitor and control traffic within a local network. You can analyze the communication activities using predefined firewall rules. Step 1

  • On Windows 7, Vista, and XP - Go to the notification area and double-click the ESET icon to open the ESET Smart Security program. Alternatively, choose the All Programs option from the Start menu, select the ESET option, and click ESET Smart Security.
  • On Windows 10 - Navigate to the taskbar. Click the Show hidden icons arrow followed by the ESET icon.
  • On Windows 8 - Press the Win and Q keys at the same time. Type ESET in the search field and select ESET Smart Security from the search result.

Step 2

  • Once the main interface of the program opens, press the F5 key on the keyboard.
  • This will open the Advanced Setup window.

Step 3

  • Click the Network Protection tab followed by the Firewall tab in the left panel.

Step 4

  • In the main panel, navigate to the Basic section.
  • Click the slider bar next to the Enable Firewall option to enable the ESET Firewall feature.

Step 5

  • Choose Automatic Mode, Interactive Mode, Policy-based Mode, or Learning Mode from the Filtering Mode drop-down menu.
  • Automatic Mode - It is the default filtering mode for convenient use. It blocks most of the inbound traffic and allows all the outbound traffic for a specific system. If needed, you can customize the rules.
  • Interactive Mode - It is a custom configuration mode. You have to customize the rules as you require. Most importantly, it is not intended for prolonged use.
  • Policy-based Mode - This filtering mode is for advanced users. You should prefer this mode only if you want to control all the network communication.
  • Learning Mode - This filtering mode creates rules automatically and saves them. It is preferred for the initial firewall configuration.

Step 6

  • Once you have enabled the ESET firewall feature and set up the filtering mode, click OK to save these settings.
