TURN ON MICROSOFT DEFENDER USING GROUP POLICY

  • Click the Start button on your computer’s main screen.
  • Type gpedit.msc into the search bar and select the Local Group Policy Editor option from the search results.
  • Now, the Local Group Policy Editor window will appear on the screen.
  • Below the Computer Configuration section, expand the Administrative Templates folder in the left menu panel of the window.
  • Navigate to the Windows Components folder and expand it.
  • Here, search for the Microsoft Defender antivirus folder in the left menu panel of the window and select it.
  • Double-click the Turn off Microsoft Defender antivirus option in the right menu pane of the window.

  • Select the Disabled option on the top-left side of the window.
  • Click Apply> OK.
  • Now, the Microsoft Defender antivirus is enabled on your computer.

  • Select the Start menu on the main screen of your Windows 10 computer.
  • Choose the Settings icon at the bottom left side of the window.
  • Click the Update & Security option from the list.
  • In the next window, click on the Windows Security option in the left menu panel.
  • Select the Virus & threat protection option and choose the Manage settings option below the Virus & threat protection section.
  • Slide the toggle button below the Real-time protection section to enable the Microsoft Defender antivirus on your Windows 10 computer.

  • Click the Start menu on your computer’s main screen.
  • Type Control Panel into the search bar at the bottom of the window.
  • Select the Control Panel option from the search results.
  • In the next window, choose the System and Security option and select the Action Center option.
  • Under the Security section, click the Turn on now button next to the “Spyware and unwanted software protection (Important)” and “Virus protection (Important)” options.
  • Now, the Microsoft Defender antivirus is enabled on your Windows 8 computer.

ENABLE MICROSOFT DEFENDER IN WINDOWS 7

  • Select the Start menu on your computer’s main screen.
  • Type Control Panel into the search bar at the bottom of the window.
  • Choose the Control Panel option from the search results.
  • In the next window, click on the Category drop-down icon and choose the Large icons option.
  • Here, click on the Windows Defender option.
  • Now, you will see a popup message saying, “This program is turned off.”
  • Select the “click here to turn it on” link inside the popup window.
  • The Microsoft Defender antivirus is enabled on your Windows 7 computer.
