Disabling Windows Defender Permanently

It's important to check whether you've disabled the 'Tamper Protection' feature before continuing with the permanent disabling of Microsoft defender using Group Policy. To disable Tamper protection proceed with the steps below: n Launch the Windows Security program and then select Virus and threat protection. n Now, go to Manage Settings and then disable Tamper Protection. Disabling Windows Defender using Group Policy:

  • Open the Start menu on your computer.
  • Type 'gpedit.msc' in the search bar and press OK.
  • Open Local Group Policy Editor In the left pane of the window that appears.
  • Navigates to Computer Configuration and then select Administrative Templates.
  • Now, choose Windows Components and then click Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
  • Click on 'Turn Off Windows Defender Antivirus'.
  • Select the 'Enabled' option to disable Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
  • Select Apply and Click OK
  • Restart the system.

Disabling Windows Defender Using Registry

  • In the search bar on your Windows computer, type 'Regedit' and hit Enter
  • Click on 'HKey_Local_machine'
  • Click on Software and select Policy options.
  • Select Microsoft > Windows Defender
  • Select Windows Defender and then click on Default (on the right side).
  • Right-click and select New.
  • Select Dword (32-bit) value.
  • Name the new DWORD as DisableAntiSpyware and then press Enter
  • Double-click the DisableAntiSpyware DWORD and set its value to 1
  • Click the OK button.

The changes will be applied only after a reboot. Now you are successfully disable Windows Defender.
