Configure Anti-Spam In Avast Business

Avast Business Antivirus contains an anti-spam plugin. You can use it in the Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird email clients for protection. It also helps in filtering threats and spam from the Inbox folder of your email account.To configure Anti-spam in Avast Business settings, proceed with the step-by-step instructions given on this page.

Step 1

Open the Avast Business Antivirus program on your computer.

Step 2

  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Select the Components option.

Step 3

  • By default, the Anti-spam feature is enabled.
  • If it is not enabled, navigate to the Anti-spam field and turn on the toggle.
  • This will enable the Anti-spam feature in the Avast Business settings.

Step 4

  • To configuring Anti-spam in Avast Business, click the Customize link next to Anti-spam.

Step 5

In the Main Settings tab, you will see the following options.

Sensitivity

  • By default, the Medium option is selected in the Sensitivity drop-down menu.
  • If you choose Higher sensitivity, the component will more likely detect unwanted emails and mark legitimate messages as spam.

Spam Messages

  • By default, there is a checkmark next to the Mark option.
  • This component will mark junk emails with the subject line SPAM. You can even add some other subject lines to mark junk emails.

Phishing Messages

  • It marks scam emails with the subject line Phishing.
  • The Mark option in the Phishing messages field is selected by default.

Outbound Emails

  • Select the Add recipients of outbound emails to whitelist automatically checkbox. Add the required email address to this trusted email list. So, these emails will not be treated as spam.
  • Instead of adding individual email addresses to the whitelist, you can even add their domain. For this, you have to select the Add only domains of the recipient checkbox.

Retrieve New Rules

  • The Retrieve new rules checkbox is selected by default. Also, 300 is set in the Period (on seconds) field.
  • This component will update the Anti-spam detection filter to identify spam by checking new rules every 300 seconds. If necessary, configure Anti-spam in Avast Business as you wish.

Enable LiveFeed

  • To check all the incoming email messages against online databases, select the Enable-LiveFeed checkbox.
  • The manufacturer recommends the user to enable this option.

MS Outlook only

  • This component is only for Outlook users.
  • Select or deselect the following options based on your requirement.
  • Automatically move spam messages to the junk folder
  • Add entries from address book to whitelist automatically
  • After you configure the main settings of Anti-spam in Avast Business, continue with the following steps.

Step 6

  • Navigate to the White List tab.
  • Click the Add button to add an email address of the person you consider as not spam.
  • In this section, you can even add an entire domain to Whitelist.

Step 7

  • Go to the Black List tab.
  • Include a single email address or an entire domain to Blacklist.
  • This will block emails from the blocked email address or domain.

Step 8

Once you finish configure Anti-spam in Avast Business, save these settings and close the Avast Business Antivirus program.
