Acronis Backup is a software used to back up all the important data on your system. If Acronis Backup is stuck locking partition on your computer, you need to process dumps and other logs such as SnapAPI Logs and VSS Logs.

Keep reading the instructions below to fix the actual hanging of the Acronis backup software.

  • First, collect a Process Monitor Log while creating a dump of the hanging process. The Process Monitor utility is an advanced monitoring tool that displays the real-time file system, registry, and process activity.
  • If the Process Monitor consumes too much RAM or slows down your computer, click the File menu in the Process Monitor window and select the Backing Files option.
  • Choose the file location to store the backing up files.
  • To collect a Process Monitor log, download Process Monitor from the Windows Sysinternals page.
  • Extract and run the downloaded file.
  • Reinstate the issue without closing the Process Monitor tool and click File > Save.
  • Note down the file path and select All events in the Save to File window.
  • Click OK and copy the logfile.PML into a ZIP file.
  • Next, download ProcDump from the official Windows Sysinternals site and create a folder to store the dumps.
  • Unzip the archive and move the procdump.exe into the created directory.
  • Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut keys and type ‘cmd’ in the text field. Hit Enter to launch the Command Prompt app.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type ‘procdump -ma -n 5 ’ and hit the Enter key (replace process name with the name of your hanging process.
  • If you were collecting a dump of Acronis Storage Node, type ‘procdump StorageServer.exe -n 5 ’ in the Command Prompt window and hit the Enter key.
  • Next, collect a system report from your Windows computer.
  • If you fail to collect the system report, use the Acronisinfo utility.
  • If the last message in the log is Locking Partition, then the SnapAPI module activity should be investigated.
  • Download the Acronis VSS Doctor diagnostic tool and start the diagnostic process.
  • To save the diagnostic results, click the Save Log button.
  • Update your Acronis Backup and rerun the software to check if Acronis is stuck in locking partition.
